March Madness
Who do you guys have in your final four?
I'm liking Michigan St., Memphis, Pittsburgh, and North Carolina
Carolina over Memphis in the National Championship.

Re: March Madness
i don't know, you named some of the main ones obviously.
i am a maryland fan, who ironically enough have wins over unc and mich st.
missouri and syracuse are the 3 seeds that could do well in my opinion. and obviously all the 1s and 2s are solid. but no team is dominating this year, kind of like how pro football was, it's anyone's game. i predict more upsets than usual.

I have picked KU every year since 6th grade (since 1993, I believe).... I'm 1 and 15 so far ..... I think I may be a bit bias, though, growing up in Topeka and near the Lawrence/Kansas City area, haha.
Picking KU again this year.
Picking KU again this year.
Re: March Madness
by the way, louisville is definitely the best team. but, i don't know if i am confident they will take it.
Re: March Madness
I'm a Spartan fan, so i picked them to be in the final four. But there is a big dropoff from the 1 and 2 seeds compared to the rest of the field. so all final four teams will be either a 1 or 2, but the rest is wide open. Could make for a crazy tournament.

that is a bold statement.
here's to spicing things up:
i GUARANTEE you will be proven wrong. that is almost never the case. '07 was the first time since '93. the time before that was... oh wait, that WAS the first time. that has happened twice, one of which was two years ago, no way does it happen two out of three years.

I think it's interesting how some of the teams that were jokes 10 years ago are not top dogs or making their way up there. I remember when Gonzaga got in about 10 years ago, and we were thinking - Gonzaga? Who the hell is that? They came in at ranked #14 the first year that I saw them in the bracket. Even Missouri wasn't that good of a team 10 years ago, and Butler is rising in the ranks of the tournament.. 5 years down the line, they could be a top seeded team.

Butler will never be a top seed playing in the weak ass Horizon conference. Or whatever little jabroni conference they play in. Their strength of schedule will never be good enough to warrant a top seed. Hell Memphis plays in the tougher Conference USA and have won over 50 conference games in a row over the past 3 seasons and this year going like 31-3 and they still get a #2. Butler is a very good mid major team, with a recent run of success, but they don't have the facilities, tradition, or recruiting powers to ever warrant a top seed.
Gonzaga hasn't ever gotten a first seed and they are the exception, rather than the rule. Gonzaga has made themselves a nice little niche in the northwest. Recruiting against the likes of Washington and Washington State or the Oregon schools is way easier than what it would be with Butler being in the state of Indiana. Butler would have to recruit against not only Indiana, but many of the other Big 10 schools and of course Notre Dame and Marquette in the Big East. I cannot ever see them out recruiting elite schools like that.
Butler is Butler. Good team that could shock someone in the first weekend of the tournament, but they don't have what it takes in my opinion to become the next Gonzaga.
But we'll see. Thats why they play the games.

Re: March Madness
well still, 3 losses when you are in a weak conference is not number one worthy ever. these teams aren't number 1s because they aren't going to win... memphis is on a hot streak, but that's because conference play started. they lost to georgetown who are a 6 seed in NITs and then syracuse and xavier who are good but must wins if you want to be top 4 with a weak schedule.
as for butler... recent run of success? they started out a lot stronger if i recall. they lost like 4 of their last 10 or so against some mediocre teams. they get what they deserve. they've had some decent seeds in the past i think.
and mortis, butler has been in the ranks since 2000, and a long time ago too. they've always had a name for themself.
and sorry if i sound like an encyclopedia, i watch mike & mike and first take every morning i open up at the gym.

I did say 10 years ago.... which would mean 1999, when they weren't in the ranks, right?
I'm not a basketball know-it-all or anything like that.. just stating an observation. I wasn't saying Butler's going to be huge in 5 years or whatever.... just saying that teams who are crap now could really be something in 10 years. Just found it interesting is all. You guys don't have to overanalyze my statement
Re: March Madness
a moment of silence for our fallen Butler Bulldogs. Next year, boys! Hey, they started 3 freshmen, a sophmore and a junior. They'll be back.

yeah, this makes it even less likely all 1s and 2s will be in the elite 8/final 4.
Re: March Madness
i have a perfect elite eight. anyone can feel free to search dfdmike on espn fantasy if you don't believe.

Congrats on calling the Missouri upset. Going into the tournament i told a buddy, "Missouri fucking sucks. I'm picking against them in the 2nd round." Oh, how right i was.
I have 6 of 8 right. Memphis and Syracuse were my losers.
If UConn and Pitt both win my prognostication of only 1-2 seeds in Final Four will be correct. Maybe i'll be right about something after all.

Re: March Madness
i know, haha! i was thinking that... lol. both pools i am in, i have all 1s and 2s. my main one (the one i mentioned) is all 1s. i just know historically, it's not likely. i will say, missouri would have a much better chance if they didn't have to play the best damn team right now... villanova is hot, but i can't forget the american game. pitt also looked awful in their first game. so, it could still happen. i'm excited to actually see some good games... some major blow outs that i had high hopes for the past two days. i just am excited knowing that there really isn't much of a distinction between the top 4 teams. they are all very equal and match up well, can't imagine anymore blow outs...

As a MSU fan i'm scared shitless of Louisville. MSU turns the ball over too much going against a basic zone defense. The point guards seem to play wiht thier heads in their asses for stretches, and Goran Suton looks good one second, and looks completely lost the next. Now being a turnover prone team and facing that full court press of Louisville is going to be brutal. Hopefully Izzo can work some magic. But i'm not counting on it. It could get ugly.

yeah, tough match... louisville honestly looks invincible right now. but it'll be quite the coaching icons match up.
Re: March Madness
Well Kansas is out :-/.... being from Kansas City, I was hoping for a Kansas/Missouri championship.

It was very possible.. both teams having good seeds, and making it to the Sweet 16.

... ok ... use my hint and run with it..
ok, i'll spell it out. kansas and missouri aren't literally capable of going against each other in the championship. ok, now think on it more
